Q

describe a pet scan

A

a radio active glucose tracer is injected into the paitent. the sreas of the brain that are most active use the most amount of glucose breaking it down and leaving radiactive material

Q

what did raine et al find and how does this support

A

raine used a sample of 41 pp 39 male and 2 fmale in a matched pairs desighn of those who pleaded ngri and those who did not. riane use pet scans to determine activity in certain areas of the brain when shown agressive stimuli. he found that those who pleaded NGRI had a much higher activity on the right side of amygdala and lower activity on the pfc compared to controll
t/f this shows how pet scans can be used to determine the role of brain activity inagression and provide reliable scentific findings

Q

what is a weakness of brain scans

A

invasive
pet scans require injection of a radioactive glucose tracer. some individuals may find this to uncomfortable or invase meaning they will not undergo the procedure
t/f there is unethical limits on the amount it can be used on one person and may be less popular due to it’s evasive nature

Q

what is a strength of scanning

A

sceientific
all brain scans are scientific and so provide objective easy to analyse quantative data on paintents brain activity.
t/f brain scans are a reliable and objective way of obtaining data and can be used to explain theh role of brain activity in agression

Q

what is anouther weakness of scanning

A

pop valid
not everyone can have scans as fmri scans mean people with metal in their body- e.g stents can’t have scans and those who are pregnant can’t have CAT scans
t/f this decreases the sample size of tested methods decreasing the validity
