What is executive?
It is the body of persons that looks after the implementation of rules and regulations in actual practice.

- Permanent

Why did India adopt parliamentary system?
- Experience of running a parliamentary system.
- Executive can be efficiently controlled.
- Danger of a personality cult developing around the president.
Who is the formal head of executive?
President
Discretionary powers of the president.
- Can send back advice given from council of ministers.
- veto power and pocket veto.
- Formally appoints the PM. If there is no clear majority in the parliament, he Picks the PM.
How is the president elected?
President is elected by MP’s and MLA’s. It is through PR system with a single transferable vote.
How is a president removed?
Grounds- Violation of the constitution
Can be removed after impeachment by the parliament with a special majority.
What is Article 74?
The council of minsters, headed by the prime minister, shall aid and advice the president who shall act in accordance of this advice.
Why is a president needed?
The council of ministers is dependent on the Lok Sabha. This means that at any point, it can be dismissed. In such situations, a head of state with a fixed tenure is required.
Also, the president formally appoints the prime minister and in case of no clear majority, picks the Prime Minister.
