It is the centre of all democratic processes.
what is parliament?
It is the national legislature.
What is a bicameral legislature?
2 houses of legislature.
What is the benefit of a bicameral legislature?
It makes it possible to get a decision reconsidered. Every bill would be discussed twice.
What are the 2 houses of parliament?
Rajya Sabha
Lok Sabha
What are the 2 types of representation?
Symmetrical representation and proportional representation.
Term of a rajya sabha mp
6 yrs. every 2 yrs 1/3rd of the mps complete their term.
Is the rajya sabha ever fully dissolved?
no
How are rajya sabha mps elected?
By indirect election. State legislatures decide through elections
How is lok sabha elected?
direct elections. 5 yr term
When is lok sabha dissolved?
it is dissolved if no party forms govt or if prime minister recommends it to the president.

If the lok sabha wants to make a law regarding a subject in the state list, it needs permission of the rajya sabha.

- initiates and amends money bill
- council of ministers is responsible to them
- can remove govt
why is LS given more power?
It is because they are directly elected by the people.
