Integumentary System Flashcards
3 layers of skin
Epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis
Sub layers of the dermis layer
Papillary and reticular layer
Dermis
Middle layer of skin and responsible for sweating, blood circulation, and it has nerve fibers in it
Secondary level of epidermis, 80% of the dermis layer, holds nerve fibers and capillaries
Reticular layer
Different epidermal cells
Keratinocytes, melanocytes, Langerhans cells, and Merkel cells
Most bottom layer of skin composed of fat, best for shock absorption
Hypodermis layer
Keratinocytes
Building blocks of keratin
Synthesis melanin, skin color is based on the width of their cellular extensions
Melanocyte
Hypodermis
Bottom layer composed of fat
Top layer of skin, made of stratified squamous epithelial tissue
Epidermis
Building blocks of keratin
Keratinocytes
Langerhans Cells
Come from bone marrow, immune system of skin, star shaped
Melanocyte
Synthesis melanin, skin color is based on the width of their cellular extensions
Epidermis
Top layer of skin, made of stratified squamous epithelial tissue
Come from bone marrow, immune system of skin, star shaped
Langerhans Cells
