What: Two corpus cavernosa composed of erectile tissue enclosed in fibrous membrane
Where:
Function: Sexual pleasure
Labia Majora - What?
Outside pigmented skin, has pubic hair
Labia minora - What?
Between labia majora and vestibula
Mons pubis - Where?
Above the clitoris, where pubic hair is
Vestibular (Bartholin’s) glands - What, where and function
Where: Situated on either side of the vaginal orifice
Function: Produces mucus to lubricate the vestibule during sexual intercourse
Cervic - What, where and function
What:
Where: Connection between uterus and vagina
Function: Passageway for menstrual flow, for sperm to enter, and for childbirth
Body of uterus - What/where?
From cervix to fundus; the “vertical” portion
Fundus of uterus - What/where?
Between the openings of the uterine tubes; the “horizontal” portion
Three layers of the uterus and the cell/tissue type
Perimetrium: Simple squamous epithelium and areolar connective tissue
Myometrium: Largest layer; smooth muscle capable of expanding
Endometrium: Simple columnar epithelium with cilia and secretory cells
Round ligament - What, where and function
What:
Where: Lateral to the uterus
Function: Support for the uterus within the pelvis
Broad ligament - What, where and function?
What: Fold of peritoneum
Where: Goes over the uterus
Function: Connects sides of uterus to walls and floor of pelvis
Ovarian follicles - Function and when are they formed?
Holds primary oocyte (an incomplete proto-egg)
Women are born with all of these
