Q

A03 - supporting research

A

P) There’s supporting research to support this idea that family do have an influence in your development of addiction, in research conducted by Quine and Stephenson (1990).

E) They carried out a study with a sample of 2336, 10 - 12 year old Australian children and found out thay they were significantly more likely than other children to have the inention of drinking alcohol if their parents drink at least daily.

E) This suggests that if a child’s parents or siblng use drugs or drink alcohol, they’re more likely to imitate them and also develop an interest in drinking alcohol or taking drugs.

Q

A03 - More supporting research?

A

P - Lastly, there’s convincing evidence to support family influence on addiction.

E - Bahr found that family characteristics were most strongly associated with heavy drinking, exccesive smoking and drug use was tolerant parental attitude.

E - He found that adolcents with parents who were tolerant of substances were more likely to intereact with peers who smoke, drank heavily and used little drugs.

L - This suggests a tolerant home envioment increases addiction vulnurability.
