23. DISORDERS OF MALABSORPTION. COELIAC DISEASE. CYSTIC FIBROSIS. Flashcards
Specific antibodies found in celiac disease:
antibodies against tissue transglutaminase (Ttg2) and endomysial antibodies (EMA)
Celiac’s genetic predisposition:
Genetic predisposition is related to HLA DQ2 and DQ8 of T cells.
Diagnosis of celiac disease:
is based on clinical symptoms, positive tTG antibodies, EMA, HLA DQ2 or HLA DQ8 and typical duodenal histology- small bowel biopsy showing various degrees of villous atrophy (short or absent villi), mucosal inflammation, crypt hyperplasia, and increased numbers of intraepithelial lymphocytes.
Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA):
is a hypersensitivity reaction to Aspergillus in the CF airways. It causes airway inflammation/obstruction and aggravates CF lung disease.
