an overall slow-down of cognitive abilities in days & mo. before death
terminal decline
irreversible loss of intellectual fxning caused by organic brain damage or disease
dementia
loss of blood flow to part of the brain w/c damages brain tissue
hemorrhage = too much blood w/in the closed cranial cavity
ischemia = too little blood supply an adequate amount of oxygen & nutrients to a part of the brain
stroke
progressive disease beginning w/ mild memory loss & possibly leading to loss of the ability to carry on a conversation & respond to the environemnt
Alzheimer’s Disease
a brain disorder that causes unintended or uncontrollable movements (shaking, stiffness, & difficulty w/ balance & coordination
symptoms usually begin gradually & worsen over time
as the disease progresses ppl may have a hard time walking & talking
