What is the Coriolis Force?

A

It is the force created by the rotation of the Earth’s Surface. It deflects air to the right in the Northern Hemisphere, causing it to curve. This deflection is greatest at the poles and diminishes to zero at the equator.

What is a temperature inversion?

A

When the temperature of air rises with a change in altitude.

Two types of temperature inversions?

A

Surface Based: occur on clear, cool nights when air becomes cooled by the ground, air nearest the ground becomes colder than the air above it
Frontal: occur when warm air spreads over a layer of cooler air, or cooler air is forced under a layer of warmer air.
