Teeth nerve supply and surrounding tissues Flashcards

1
Q

What are the main branches and the nerves off the Facial nerve supplying nerve supply to teeth and surrounding tissues

A

V2- maxillary teeth via Posterior superior alveolar/middle superior alveolar and anterior superior alveolar nerve forming the dental plexus
V3 - interior alveolar nerve and its Incisive branch forming the dental plexus to the mandibular teeth
However surrounding tissues are also involved with CN VII,IX,X and XII

Q

Does the buccal nerve of V3 supply buccinator

A

No - lies on it and pierces it but not supply it ( via buccal nerve VII-facial nerve )

Q

Where does the inferior alveolar nerve originate and travel

A

Off the V3 mandibular branch once it exits foramen oval travels thru the mandibular canal -exiting at the mandibular foramen .
Continues then divides into mental /incisive nerve as it enters the mental foramen

Q

What does the inferior alveolar nerve supply

A

Forms part of the dental plexus - to mandibular posterior teeth

Supplies plural tissues /periodontal ligament /bone of mandibular posterior teeth UP TO MENTAL FORAMEN where it becomes the incisive nerve/mental nerve ( incisive Nerve then supplies other mandibular teeth as part of the dental plexus )
