What electrolyte imbalances are associated with the following lung cancers:
- Small cell lung cancer
- Squamous cell lung cancer

A

Small cell - Increase in cortisol due to ACTH production from the tumour -> Cushing’s disease

Squamous cell lung cancer - hypercalcaemia
- due to PTH like peptide formation from the tumour -> Increase Ca+

Which are most common in smokers?

A

Small cell - hilar
- common in smokers

Squamous cell - hilar
- common in current smokers

Adenocarcinoma - peripheral
- most common in non-smokers
- best prognosis

Large cell - whole lung
