Local anaesthetics Flashcards
Inhaled analgesics - general maintaining anaesthetics
Nitrous oxide “laughing gas”
Maintains analgesia
also desflurane, desflurane, seroflurane.
IV analgesics - general anaesthetics (work by blocking the nerve signals) act on CNS ion channels and membrane receptors fat soluble.
Profofol - non barbituate (think Michael jackson )
ETOmudate - IV anaesthetic
Thiopental - barbituate - v brief
ketamine - shocked patients/children. Hallucinations
Benzodiazepines ( again think michael jackson)
Taken orally, IV and rectally.
Increase GABA in brain.GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter.
midazolam, temazepam diazepam (valium )
used as pre-med or prior to dental treatment. calm the nervous system .
Highly addictive and can cause respiratory depression. Interact with alcohol.
Muscle Relaxants
Block transmission in motor nerves. Reduce the need for deep anaesthesia, relax vocal chords, require assisted respiration.
Pancuriam, pancronim (ach antagonist, competes with nicotinic receptors), suxamethonium (depolorising antagonist. Psendochineterase enzyme).
