Which part of the airframe is anti-iced?
Hot air:
- 3 outboard leading edge slats of each wing.
- Engine air intakes
Electrical heating:
- flight compartment windows.
- pitot heads, static ports, AOA and TAT probes
- Water-waste drain mast.
Can APU be used for airframe anti-icing?
No
What are is the hot air taken from for the engine anti-icing and the wing anti-icing?
- An independent air bleed from the high-pressure compressor protects each engine nacelle form ice. Air is supplied through a two positions (open or closed) valve that the crew controls with two p/b, 1 for each engine.
- Hot air from the pneumatic system heats three outboard slats (3-5) of each wing. Air sis supplied via 1 valve on each wing.
What happens if there is NO electrical control to the wing anti-ice valve / engine anti-ice valve?
- If the electrical power supply fails, the valves close.
- If the electrical power fails, the valves open.
How long does the WAI ground test last?
What happens after that time?
What happens at lift-off if still on?
- 30 seconds, then the valves close.
- Light still illuminates
- Valves re-open once lift-off.
What happens to the N1 and N1 limit, when EAI is selected ON?
N1 limit reduces, N1 increases.
Which probes are NOT heated on the ground?
TAT (pitot heating low, auto changes to normal once in flight.
In the AUTO position, when are PROBES and WINDOWS heated automatically?
- In flight
- On the ground (except tat probes) provided one engine is running.
What is the maximum speed for the use of windscreen wipers?
230kts
Below what temperature can de-icing be switch off?
-40 degrees during climb or cruise.
What defines icing conditions?
Less or equal to +10 degrees OAT or TAT, visible moisture, clouds, fog, low visibly less or equal to 1NM, rain, snow, sleet, ice crystals or standing water, slush, ice or snow is present on the taxiways or runways.
