Emergency descent

A

Crew duties:

  • oxygen masks on (set to N position to save oxygen)
  • establish communication

PF duties:

  • announce: “emergency descent.”
  • initiate emergency descent with autopilot:
    1. ALT knob turn and pull
    2. HDG knob turn and pull
    3. SPD/MACH adjust
    4. Consider EXPEDITE mode
    5. Thrust levers to idle (if manual thrust) or check FMA: THR IDLE
    6. Use FULL SPD BRK

PM duties:

  1. Signs on
  2. Engine mode selector to IGN
  3. ATC notify: “MAYDAY or PAN PAN” call
  4. PA: “attention cabin crew, emergency descent”
  5. ATC code set 7700
  6. FMA check
  7. PAX oxygen masks MAN ON (if CAB ALT is more than 14,000’)

Windshear

A

If after V1:

  • PF announce: “windshear TOGA”
  • TOGA thrust
  • Rotate at VR
  • Follow SRS, if FDs are not available use 17.5 up to full backstick

Initial climb or landing:

  • PF announce: “windshear TOGA”
  • TOGA thrust
  • Keep the AP if engaged
  • Follow SRS, if FDs are not available use 17.5 up to full backstick
  • Maintain current configuration until out of shear

Engine failure in cruise, drift down procedure.

A

Before descent:

  1. Set MCT
  2. A/THR OFF
  3. Notify ATC
  4. Decelerate to Green Dot
  5. Determine Cruise FL (quick way is to check the MCDU PROG page)
  6. ECAM actions

Drift down - standard

  1. SPD: M.78 / 300knots - pull
  2. ALT: set LRC ceiling - pull

Drift down - obstacle

  1. SPD: Green Dot - pull
  2. ALT: selected Cruise FL - pull
  3. If obstacle problem exists - continue drift down
  4. If obstacles are cleared - accelerate to Long Range Speed

NOTE: thrust is fixed at MCT, elevator controls speed

Stall recovery

A

PF announce: “Stall, I have control”

Immediate actions:

  • pitch nose down
  • wings level

When out of stall:

  • increase thrust
  • check speedbrakes are retracted
  • recover flight path
  • if in clean configuration below 20,000’ select flap1

  • L/G select UP

Crew incapacitation

A
  • PA: “would the cabin manager report to the flight deck immediately.”
  • the cabin attendant needs to do the following tasks:
    1. Tighten and lock the shoulder harness
    2. Push the seat completely aft
    3. Recline the seat back
    4. If not possible to move the body, stay and observe
    5. Request assistant from any medically qualified passenger
    6. Check if any qualified company pilot is on board

Takeoff safety brief after V1

PF actions

A

After V1 the takeoff will continue, you will call “rotate” at VR, I will rotate towards 12.5 degrees and you will call “positive climb”, I will call “gear up”. If its an engine problem, you will call “engine failure or fire”, not identifying which engine.

Advice me that TOGA is available (if using FLX for takeoff).

Once the aircraft is under control I will engage the autopilot. At a minimum of 400’ AGL, I will call: “ECAM actions.” You will then read the first line of the ECAM and cross check any indications, and I will confirm. You will then carry out the ECAM actions with me monitoring you and confirm any necessary actions.

Once the engine is secure and above the EO altitude. I will push for V/S zero, accelerate and retract the flaps. As the speed approaches Green Dot, I will pull for OP CLB and set MCT.

We will follow the OCP to MSA and continue with the ECAM checklist. Having dealt with the failure we will return to _____. (If weather and performance permits.)
