Cause of the Suez Crisis 1956
Due to Nasser announcing the nationalisation of the Suez canal in July 1956. And so Br and Fr wanted to use force to regain the Suez

Had a plan called ‘the Protocol of Seures’ in which Israel would attack Egypt. Then Br and Fr would join to demand a ceasefire as well as defend it.
Led to Israeli forcing Egypt troops in canal leading to Br and Fr involved in police action
In return Egyptians blocked the canal
Consequence of the Suez Crisis 1956
Br had miscalculated the international reaction. The USA condemned Br actions leading to USA refusal to support sterling in the currency crisis. Led to Br and Fr announcing ceasefire in 5 days
Withdraw troops and Israel return Gaza strip to Egypt
Br Eden forced to resign with UN forced to fix the mess

Many colonies wanted to leave so Br used the Commonwealth to remain powerful and in control
