(10 cards)
What happens to the blood from the hepatic artery and portal vein in the sinusoids?
The blood from the hepatic artery and portal vein mix in the sinusoids
What two cells do hepatic sinusoids contain?
Contain 2 types of cells, flattened endothelial cells and Kupffer cells
Anastomosing, lined with a thin discontinuous endothelium
How do kupffer cells look like?
Where does the perisinusoidal space lie?
Between the basal surface of the sinusoids with the kupffer cells and the basal surface of the hepatocytes
What type of projections project onto the perisinusoidal space?
Microvilli from the basal surface of the hepatocyte
What is the function of the perisinusoidal space?
Pathway for liver secretions other than the bile
What type of collagen fibers does the space of disse contain?
Mostly Type III but some type I and type IV
What is another name for the hepatic stellate cell?
Ito cell
What are the functions of the hepatic stellate cell?
Storage of vitamin A
Become myofibroblasts after liver cell injury
Main fibrogenic cell type in liver injury
Where are hepatic stellate cells (Ito cells) present?
In the perisinusoidal space of disse
