2 Required Practical: Titration Flashcards

(2 cards)

Q

Describe how to carry out titrations using strong acids and strong alkalis only to find the reacting volumes accurately.

A
  1. Use glass pipette and pipette filler to measure and add 25cm3 of 0.1M alkali to a clean conical flask.
  2. Add 5 drops of indicator and put conical flask on white tile.
  3. Fill burette with acid using funnel
  4. Record initial volume (from the bottom of meniscus).
  5. Slowly open burette whilst swirling the conical flask.
  6. Add acid drop-by-drop near end point (colour change begins to happen).
  7. Close burette when colour change complete.
  8. Record final reading of acid.
  9. Repeat until you have concordant titres.
  10. Present results in table and calculate mean titre.

Q

Describe to calculate the chemical quantities in titrations, involving concentrations in mol/dm3 and in g/dm3

A
  1. Calculate the moles of the acid using the chemical equation.
  2. Calculate concentration by using: concentration = moles of acid / volume of mean titre.
