2 Required Practical: Titration Flashcards
(2 cards)
1
Q
Describe how to carry out titrations using strong acids and strong alkalis only to find the reacting volumes accurately.
A
- Use glass pipette and pipette filler to measure and add 25cm3 of 0.1M alkali to a clean conical flask.
- Add 5 drops of indicator and put conical flask on white tile.
- Fill burette with acid using funnel
- Record initial volume (from the bottom of meniscus).
- Slowly open burette whilst swirling the conical flask.
- Add acid drop-by-drop near end point (colour change begins to happen).
- Close burette when colour change complete.
- Record final reading of acid.
- Repeat until you have concordant titres.
- Present results in table and calculate mean titre.
2
Q
Describe to calculate the chemical quantities in titrations, involving concentrations in mol/dm3 and in g/dm3
A
- Calculate the moles of the acid using the chemical equation.
- Calculate concentration by using: concentration = moles of acid / volume of mean titre.
