Functions of RCS

Transport heat from Rx to S/G.

Act as a moderator and a reflector.

Describe flowpaths through RCS

Through core - out through hot leg to steam generator. Through S/G U-TUBES through the crossover leg to the suction of the RCP.  The pump discharges back into the reactor vessel and core.

Function of Interfacing Systems:

Pressurizer

Attainment of operating pressure.

Maintain required pressure.

Limit RCS pressure changes during load changes to allowable limits.

Prevent RCS overpressure.

Purify Reactor Coolant

Provide a Means of Chemistry Control

Provide a Means of Varying CB

Maintain RCS Inventory

Supply RCP Seal Water

RHR System

Decay Heat Removal.

Solid Plant Pressure Control in Conjunction with CVCS.

RHR Heat Exchanger used in ECCS.

Transfer Refueling Water from Refueling Cavity to the RWST.

Safety Injection

Provides Borated Water for Emergency Core Cooling in the Event of a LOCA or Steam Break Accident.

Provides access to RCS fluids to obtain chemistry samples.

Drains to RCDT are located on each loop crossover leg low point

Loop Avg Temp Fast Response RTDs
