A
  • size of the business: large businesses must hire more people giving HR more work to hire and train people
  • strategic direction: if the business wants to grow or expand, HR must hire and train people
  • structure: a clear structure allows HR to see what jobs are missing/not needed
  • finance: if the business has enough money, they could hire, train or develop workers
  • motivation: happy and motivated worker are more likely to stay longer and driven

What are 5 external factors effecting HR

A
  • change in demographic: change in age, gender, race, education
  • change in mobility: occupational/: change in jobs or careers.
    geographical: change in location or countries
  • immigration: migrant and expats
  • flexi time: working away from home
  • gig economy: temporary jobs, short term contracts. eg: cleaners, babysitters. they get paid per job

What are reasons to resist change

A
  1. self interest: people care about themselves, they will resist change if it affects their job, money or position.

2: misunderstanding or miscommunicationL if the buinsess does not clearly explain the change it can cause confusion and fear.

  1. different views: managers and employees may not agree of the cause of change leading to disagreements.
  2. low tolerance: people may not handle change well due to fear and stress.
