Describe sport

A

Sport has high levels of organisation. It will have officials and formal rules (written by National Governing Bodies). There will be high levels of competition, commitment and training. there could be high levels of sponsorship and media attention. Sport should also have sportsmanship evident and could have aesthetic quality.

A

Sportsmanship is abiding by both written and unwritten rules whilst showing respect for others. It is graciousness in both victory and defeat

A

Shaking hands at the end of the game, walking in cricket, forming a tunnel in rugby, three cheers, stopping play for an injury, giving the ball back following a stoppage etc

A

Gamesmanship is bending the rules to gain an unfair advantage. Using unconventional but not strictly illegal tactics.

A

What is meant by deviance in sport?

A

Deviance is behaviour that is sharply different from the normally accepted standards. This could involve seriously breaking the rules and norms of sport. Examples are deliberate and dangerous fouls, drug abuse and other forms of cheating.
