2.4 Flashcards
What are the conditions for EZ isomerism?
-Carbon double bond
-Two different atoms/groups on eacg carbon atom of the double bond
What is the solubility of each functional group?
-Alkanes/alkenes= non-polar, insoluble
-Halogenoalkanes= polar C-halogen, slightly soluble
-Alcohols= Can hydrogen bond, soluble 9decreases in longer chains)
-Carboxylic acid- same as alcohols
What are the products of a reaction with limited Oxygen
Carbon/soot, Carbon Monoxide, and Water
What are the products of a reaction with plentiful Oxygen?
Carbon Dioxide and water
What is a free radical?
An atom or group of atoms with an unpaired electron
What types of bonding is present in ethene?
4 sigma bonds (C-H)
1 double bond (C=C) made of sigma bond and pi bond
What are the bond angles of ethene?
120 degrees
What is a sigma bond?
A covalent bond when two atomic orbitals overlap along the intermolecular axis
What is a pi bond?
A covalent bond made by the double sideways overlap of two p orbitals
