Foundation laid for the 2nd Temple. The Cohens & Elders see it and have two reactions. They shout for joy that the 2nd temple is built, and they cry because the first Temple is lost. They are so loud no one could tell who was happy and who was sad. Book of Ezra (in Book of Nehemia, more were sad)

Returnees take control of rebuilding the second Temple and exclude the heads of clans from Israel. Book of Ezra

Ezra will join the exiles in returning to Israel. This line shows he is qualified to teach Torah. Book of Ezra. וְהוּא-סֹפֵר מָהִיר בְּתוֹרַת מֹשֶׁה - epithet for Ezra
סֹפֵר מָהִיר - excellent scribe
Ezra 7:6
6 this Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given; and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.

Ezra angry because everyone married non-Jewish wives. Ezra 10:10
10 And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them: ‘Ye have broken faith, and have married foreign women, to increase the guilt of Israel.
