What is the difference between cohesion and adhesion?
Cohesion only forms bonds between water moleules and adhesion is a water molecule that forms a bond with another substance.
What form of bonding helps fight gravity?
Adhesion because it sticks to tree walls or other substances to get a water intake.
Why is water the solvent for life?
solvents dissolve solutes creating solutions.
What does the special case of ice state?
Ice floats, h bonds form crystals, ice is less dense than water, and ice insulates water below.

Why does ice float in liquid water?
The H bonds condense and form crystals. There are air pockets that make it float.
How do ionic and covalent substances dissolve differently?
Ionic substances break apart and covalent substances clump together.
What makes a solution neutral, acidic, or basic?
[H3O+] = [-OH]3
[H3O+] > [-OH]3
[H3O+] < [-OH]3
What can be claimed about acids and bases and the ratio of [H3O+] and [OH-]?
The sum of the [H3O+] and [OH-] = 14. Acids are 1-6, neutral is 7, and bases are 8-14. Higher pH=lower concentration.
In what powers is the pH scale?
Powers of 10.
