6.1 specialized cells Flashcards
bio ll (10 cards)
Prokaryotic vs Eukaryotic cells
Eukaryotic- plant and animal cells
Prokaryotic- bacteria cells
What is the endomembrane system?
Making and transporting proteins
What structutes are involved in the endomembrane system?
ER, vesicles, and golgi apparatus
Similarities vs differences- breaking down waste
Similar- all produce waste, all remove waste by breaking down molecules, all can exit out cell membrane
Different- animal cells use lysomes, plant cells use vacuoles, bacteria use enzymes
Similarities vs differences- container
similar- cell membranes control what comes in and out of cells
different- eukaryotes have inner compartments with different functions, plants have cell wall
Similarities vs differences- instructions
Similar- They all have DNA, genes hold instructions for building proteins
Different- bacteria cells can have free floating DNA
Similarities vs differences- reading instructions
Similar- all have proteins, cells that copy, and ribosomes, animals and plants are exact same processes
Different- bacteria cells don’t have ER, vesicles, or golgi so their processes end earlier
Similarities vs differences- energy
Similar- all produce ATP, all use proteins to break down fuel
Different- animals and plants take place in mitochondria, plants use chloroplasts, animals and bacteria release CO2, plants and bacteria can use sunlight
What is the same for all 3 types of cells?
DNA holds info to code and copy itself
