Muscle Flashcards
What muscle types have striations?
Skeletal and cardiac
What are the three types of muscle?
Skeletal, cardiac, smooth
Why are skeletal muscle cells multinucleated?
Fusion of embryonic myoblasts
What are the three layers of connective tissue found in muscles?
The epimysium, perimysium, and endomysium
What does the epimysium surround and what is its function?
The entire muscle. Its septa that penetrate the muscle carry arteries, nutrients, and nerves
What is the epimysium made of?
Dense CT
What does the perimysium surround and what is its function?
The fascicles of the muscle. The perimysium is penetrated by nerves, arteries, and veins. Also acts as insulation.
What is the perimysium made of?
Thin CT
What does the endomysium surround and what is its function?
The endomysium surrounds individual muscle fibers and insulates them. Also supplies vasculature in the form of capillary networks.
What are the two myofilaments of muscle tissue?
Actin and myosin
End to end repetition if sarcomeres create
Myofibrils
Groups of myofibrils make up
Muscle fibers

Fascicles
Groups of fascicles make up
A muscle
What are the three subunits of troponin?
TnT, TnC, TnI
