Flashcards in 2.8-2.9 Deck (12)
What is ATP formed from?
ADP + phosphate ion
What happens in glycolysis?
- no oxygen needed
- in cytoplasm
- glucose ( 6 carbon) split to 2 3 carbon molecules, which are converted to pyruvate ions
- atp produced
What happens in anaerobic respiration Im muscle tissue?
Pyruvate—-> lactate and a small amount of ATP
What happens in fermentation?
Yeast respite anaerobically. Glucose —-> ethanol + CO2 and ATP
What happens in aerobic respiration?
In the presence of oxygen, sugar is completely oxidised in the mitochondria.
Glucose —-> CO2 + H2O + ATP (38)
What is photosynthesis?
Energy from sunlight used to produce chemical energy for life processes
What is the reaction in photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water + light energy——> sugars and oxygen
What happens in photolysis?
-Water is split using light energy
- oxygen is released and hydrogen is retained on a hydrogen acceptor
-ATP is generated from ATP and phosphate
What happens in the second stage of photosynthesis?
- CO2 is fixed to make 2 sugars
- ATP needed
What light does chlorophyll absorb?
Blue and red might
Which type of light gives the largest amount of photosynthesis?
Blue and red lighted
