Inhibit bacterial protien synthesis by attaching to the bacterial ribosomes
Where are aminoglycosides not well absorbed?
GI or uterus
How does aminoglycosides absorb?
Hydrophilic at physiologic pH
What tissues do aminoglycosides not penetrate well?
CNS, eye, prostate gland
Where does aminoglycosides accumulate and what happens?
Inner ear and kidneys. Can cause deafness and kidney disease
How are aminoglycosides eliminated?
Kidneys
What are aminoglycosides widely effective against?

What is aminoglycosides not effective against?
Anaerobic bacteria
What can dehydration cause with aminoglycosides?
Higher concentrations
Are aminoglocosides bacteriocidal or bacteriostatic?

What types of animals should you use caution with aminoglycosides?
Renal disease or poor renal diffusion
What four aminoglycosides should not be mixed with penicillin?
Gentamicin, amikacin, kanamycin, tones mucin
