Pasteurella & Mannheimia Flashcards

1
Q

Family Pasteurellaceae - description

A

Gram negative, coccobacilli, bipolarity, facultative anaerobes, oxidase positive (difference with Enterobacteriaceae), non-motile - catalase positive - reduce nitrates & ferment carbs

Q

Pasteurella, Mannhemia pathogenesis of pneumonia

A

Ruminants w/predisposing condition –> commensals of URT infect lung –> intensive inflammatory response (erythrocytes, neutrophils, mononuclear cells, fibrin deposition) –> Lkt, LPSm capsule, ion scavenging occurs

8
Q

Pasteurella, Mannheimia pathogenesis of atrophic rhinitis

A

Swine - If bordetella alone, will be self limiting infection. But: B. brochiseptica adheres–> damages epithelium (dermonecrotic toxin) –> P. multicoda toxins destroy nasal tissue –> Pmt –> destruction of bones & turbinates, chronic rhinitis (disturbed osteogenesis)
