(6 cards)
1
Q
Reactions with metals
A
Acid + metal -> salt + hydrogen gas
2
Q
Reactions with metal oxides
A
Acid + metal oxide -> salt + water
3
Q
Reactions with metal hydroxides
A
Acid + metal hydroxide -> salt + water
4
Q
Reactions with metal carbonates
A
Salt + water + carbon dioxide
5
Q
Metal oxides and metal hydroxides
A
Metal oxides are normally bases since they are insoluble
Metal hydroxides are bases or alkalis depending on their solubility
6
Q
How to name salts
A
First part: the name of the metal before the oxide/hydroxide/carbonate
Second part comes from the acid:
Hydrochloric acid (HCl) - chloride
Nitric acid (HNO3) - nitrate
Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) - sulfate
