Test for hydrogen

Answer 1

Use a burning splint held at the open end of a test tube of the gas
If a ‘squeaky pop’ sound is heard then hydrogen is present

Question 2

Test for carbon dioxide

Answer 2

Bubble the gas through the limewater and if CO2 is present it will turn milky
