7 additional steps for care providers when caring for child victims of trafficking:

  1. Carefully verify all family and sponsor relationships in order to screen for traffickers who coerce or threaten a child
  2. Adjust in-care safety plan as appropriate to allow for only supervised phone calls or to revise the list of approved phone / visitation contacts for UC
  3. Train staff and volunteers on how victims of trafficking are subject to many different methods of coercion and control, including strong bonds with abusers and not understanding relatives of abus
  4. Simplifying UC in an age-appropriate manner to identify health relationship and understand common recruitment and deception from traffickers
  5. Implement additional safety measures, such as increased staff supervision or in/depth trauma-informed interviews during the planning process
  6. Create a safety plan that includes a list of safe persons, phone numbers, places to contact, and a list of unsafe persons and places
  7. Engaging UC in developing a plan of action for the child if they feel threatened or unsafe

A

Minimum two calls per week to family or sponsors in a private setting (10 minutes each). Can only prohibit calls if legit reasons for it

Clothing

A

Care providers shouldn’t use footwear to control behavior, and should let people wear things they come in with appropriate. Shaving facial hair can’t be required if part of cultural norms or religious beliefs, or personal preferences.

Gang-related symbols and tattoos, and any symbols should be covered or confidcated

Chores?

A

UC can be assigned individual chores for their own living environments but cannot clean like admin offices, and chores must have written policies on chores, chore assignments, and scheduels

Care providers are responsible for the following transport:

  • individual transfers between providers
  • group transfers due to an emergency or influx
  • orr requests for special initial placements
  • local services and appointments, such as medical and dental appointments, immigration court hearings. Or community services
  • release of UCs to sponsors not able to pick the child up. As are approved by ORR

Must comply with local licensing requirements etc.

A

When a child poses serious risk of harm to self or others or escape, soft restrains such as zip ties and let or ankle weights can be used in transport, but medical and mental health issues must be taken into account. All use of restraints must be documented in transport logs

  1. Victims of trafficking, at high risk of trafficking, or victims of other crimes
  2. Have a history of criminal, juvenile justice, or gang involvement
  3. Have a history of behavioral issues or violence

  5. Have a history of substance abuse
  6. Are parenting or pregnant
  7. May be subject to bullying (ie transgendered youth)
