(7 cards)
What is vaccination?
The process of introducing a small amount of dead or inactive pathogens to stimulate an immune response
What is immunization?
The process of becoming immune to a disease through vaccination or natural exposure
What are the benefits of vaccination?
Prevention of disease, herd immunity, and reduced healthcare costs
What are the risks of vaccination?
Minor side effects (e.g., soreness), allergic reactions in rare cases
How do vaccines protect us?
By stimulating the production of memory cells, making the immune system recognize and fight the pathogen if it’s encountered again
Why do some people refuse vaccines?
Due to fears of side effects, misinformation, or beliefs against vaccination
How does vaccination reduce the spread of disease?
By preventing the individual from getting the disease, thus lowering the chance of transmission to others
