3.4: Convex (Diverging Mirrors) Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
Convex (diverging) Mirrors
A
- mirror curves outwards
- reflected rays spread apart, appear to come from focal point behind mirror
2
Q
Rules to Locate Convex images
A
- incident ray parallel to p-axis = reflect as if came from focal point behind mirror
- incident ray that travels toward focal point = reflected parallel to p-axis
- incident ray that travels toward C = reflected along same path
3
Q
Where is F and C located in Convex Mirrors?
A
Focal point (F) and centre of curvature (C) are on opposite sides of where the object is placed (behind mirror)
4
Q
Images in Convex Mirrors
A
Always same characteristics
S: Smaller than object
A: Upright
L: Closer to mirror than object; behind the mirror
T: Virtual
5
Q
Functions of Convex Mirrors
A
Ex. Car mirrors, security mirrors
- objects are closer than they appear
- image smaller, looks farther
- allows you to see larger area than you can with a plane mirror
