3.7: Converging Lenses Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Converging Lenses
A
bring parallel light rays toward a common point
2
Q
When rays are parallel to principal axis?
A
will intersect at point F and because of direction of normals, rays continue to diverge
3
Q
How does Index of refraction and curve impact position of focal point?
A
- Lenses with higher indices of refraction bend light rays more, making the focal point closer to the lens
- Lenses with a larger curvature, but same index of refraction cause light rays to bend more
4
Q
Rules to Locate images in Converging Lenses
A
- rays parallel to p-axis = leave through focal
- ray that enters lens through focal = leave lens parallel to p-axis
- ray that passes through origin of lens = leave in same direction
