What is the primary purpose of AXR?

A

Diagnose obstruction - Obstruction likely if dilated bowel pre-obstruction, and no gas post-obstruction.

A

CXR - air under hemidiaphragm.

Ultrasound - look for stones etc.

CT urography (ultrasound if woman of child-bearing age)
AXR to find location of stone.

TA US (appendix) - TV if may be ovarian/fallopian.
CT if normal appendix not visualised

AXR. Maximum Physiological dimensions are 
1 - Caecum - 10cm
2 - Transerse Colon - 7cm
3 - Duodenum/Jejunum - 3.5cm
4 - Ileum - 2.5cm
