RNA Flashcards

1
Q

Regulation of Lac Operon

A

TF (required for start) only there when glucose is low. Repressor only leaves when lactose present. So really only expressed when glucose low and lactose present, so will start breaking down lactose

Q

3 Euk RNA Pols (which kind of RNA they code for and where)

A

RNA Pol I - rRNA in nucleolus
RNA Pol II - mRNA in nucleoplasm

Q

3 Inhibitors of RNA Pols (2 drugs and 1 toxin)

A

alpha-amanitin from Amanita phalloides inhibits RNA Pol II (euks). Causes hepatotoxicity
Rifampin inhibits prok RNA Pol (4 Rs - Rifampin, rRNA Pol, revs up cytochrome p450, red secretions)
Actinomycin D inhibits RNA Pol in euks and proks

Q

3 Processings before hnRNA is mRNA and can be exported from nucleus

A

Capping of 5’ end with 7methylguanosine cap
Polyadenylation of 3’ end (AAUAA with 200 As)
Splicing out of introns (remain in nucleus. Exons expressed)
