coasties. tampa served as an escort to 18 convoys, compromising
350 vessels. only 2 ships were lost through enemy action - WWI ended in1918 and cg had highest % of death in any u.s service

- Douglas Munro-sep 27 1942- only MOH coastie guadalcanal near
matanikau river - cg saved more tha 1500 torpedo survivors off u.s. coast and cutters
saved another 1000 another on escort duty over 1500 were rescued
during normandy operation - cg manned 802 cutter, 351 naval ships and craft, 288 army vessels
- 2000 coasties died in war
- almost all 2000 decorated-1 MOH, 6 Navy crosses, 1 DFC
