Requirement to announce formal inspections?

• formal inspection can be announced or unannounced and is always officially documented.
• formal inspection recorded on approved dept records
• all discrepancies ID’ed by supervisor during inspections shall be documented

Inspection ratings…?

Answer 2

• Unacceptable:
  - require correction prior to beginning duty
  - damaged uniform, part of uniform missing, no body armor, dirty fingernails/hair
• Needs Improvement:
  - fails to meet minimum standards, but does not require immediate correction
  - minor tarnish of brass, shoes need higher polish, hair in need of trim, worn spot on shirt
• Acceptable:
  - meets department standards
  - a few loose threads may be visible
• Outstanding:
  - brass is spotless and highly shined
  - leather is clean and highly polished
  - no loose threads

Question 3

Supervisors shall…?

Answer 3

• supervisor shall conduct at least 2 formal inspections each month, informal shall be continuous
• supervisor shall conduct at least 1 formal inspection each month for uniformed non-sworn
• supervisor shall conduct at least 1 formal inspection each month for non-uniformed officers
• non-uniformed, non-sworn are subject to 1 formal inspection each month
• discrepancies should be corrected as soon as possible and formally re-inspected
• supervisors may order the employee to purchase uniforms or equipment necessary to eliminate the deficiency
• failure to do so may be considered insubordination
