Q

Describe the life cycle

A

Infective L3

Arrested L4 in small and large intestinal wall

Females lay large number of eggs

Egg -> L3 = 10 days

Low motility to L3

L3 survive on pastures

PPP: 3-8 weeks

Q

Describe the Pathogenesis

A

Nodules in large intestine wall (less with O. dentatum)

Age immunity not strong (results in accumulation in older animals)

16
Q

How to treat and prevent?

A

Transmission favored by high egg excretion and humid, unhygienic conditions

Anthelmintics and management

Animals do not develop good immunity to infection

17
Q

Describe treatment and prevention in swine

A

After A. suum, most difficult to control

PPR with farrowing, favoring transmission to offspring

Pericarturient rise - rise in egg shedding just before farrowing to expose
piglets in pasture

18
Q

What is the common name?

A

Nodular worm

Pimply worm
