A

mutation in ABCD1 gene that results in defective oxidation of long-chain fatty acids in peroxisomes. Very long-chain fatty acids accumulate in myelin, adrenal glands, and elsewhere. Phenotypes can be milder, with adrenal insufficiency in adrenomyeloneuropathy and spastic paraplegia.
