3b. Squint: Classification Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is heterotropia?
A manifest squint present even when both eyes are open
What is the term for a latent squint only revealed when binocular vision is disrupted?
Heterophoria
What is esotropia?
Inward deviation of one eye
What is exotropia?
Outward deviation of one eye
How is a vertical squint described when the affected eye is higher than the other?
Hypertropia
Which type of squint remains the same in all directions of gaze?
Comitant squint
What is incomitant squint?
A squint that varies with direction of gaze
What is alternating squint?
When the fixation alternates between both eyes
What is primary deviation in paralytic squint?
Deviation of affected eye when the normal eye is fixing
How does secondary deviation differ from primary deviation in paralytic squint?
It is greater because of excessive innervation to the paretic muscle
What is the hallmark of concomitant squint in cover tests?
Angle of deviation remains unchanged with either eye fixing
Which type of squint is commonly associated with amblyopia?
Esotropia
What does āVā pattern exotropia mean?
Divergence increases on upgaze
Which classification is based on cause (neurological, mechanical, etc.)?
Etiological classification
