Q
A

palatine tonsils - mid ramus
because of location it will probs ghost on the other side
(this is a half pano tho so wont see ghost)
* multiple clusters of RP
* separated RP - more than 1 or just 1

28
Atherosclerosis - inclined here - not a straight RP but its at the levelof C3/C4
29
What is the triticeous cartilage?
Round, well defined ligament with cartilage
30
Dot - triticeous cartilage Line - thyroid Big chunk line to the left - hyoid - the triticeous cartilage is always below the hyoid (idk why its not in this pic LOL)
31
Triticeous cartilage - below hyoid
32
What is an antrolith?
- Calcified mass in the sinuses - common in max sinuses - source is ENDOGENOUS (Inflamed mucosa) - Not attached to the sinus walls
33
Antrolith - looks similar to osteoma but osteoma ALWAYS attached to bone
34
Antrolith of diff shapes and sizes
35
What is a rhinolith?
- Calcified mass in the nose - EXOGENOUS foreign body - not attached to nasal cavity walls
36
Rhinolith bc can see wall of nasal cavity
37

42
What is a sialolith?
Calcification found within the salivary glands or their ducts
43
Where are sialoliths commonly found?
Submandibular gland
44
What are symptoms of sialolith?
Asymptomatic but they may have a hx of pain and swelling at mealtimes

52
What is it called if the stylohyoid ligament ossifies?
Eagles syndrome * bc of ossification if you move your head it may compress the artery and cause dizziness (Cranial nerve impingement) * not every pt with ossified stylohyoid ligament have eagles * most eagles syndrome pts have ossified stylohyoid ligament
53
can barely see but slight RP ossified towards hyoid bone but this one is NOT ossified near the stylo
54
Ossified stylohyoid ligament
55
What is a mucous retention pseudocyst?
Accumulation of mucous within soft tissue in paranasal sinus due to obstruction of gland
56
Where are mucous retention pseudocysts most common?
In max sinus
57
Is a mucous retention pseudocyst a true cyst?
NO bc doesnt have epithelial lining
58
mucous retention pseudocyst - dome shaped RP entities within the sinus attached to wall - dont have cortical outline like cysts do bc not actual cyst
59
mucous retention pseudocyst
60
mucous retention pseudocyst
61

65
mucous retention pseudocyst
66
How do you describe the appearance of mucous retention pseudocyst?
Well-defined, non-corticated, smooth, dome shaped, and homogenous radiopaque mass
67
mucous retention pseudocyst
68
What is mucositis?
- localized inflammatory change leads to thickening of the mucosal lining - well defined, non corticated RP band of soft tissue density
69
Mucositis
70
Mucositis
71
Mucositis
72
Mucositis
73
What is sinusitis?
Inflammatory condition of the sinus mucosa caused by an allergen, bacterium, or virus
74
What are the three types of sinusitis?
Acute - 4 weeks or less (BUBBLE) Subacute - 4-12 weeks Chronic - more than 12 consecutive weeks (SCLEROSIS OR THICKENING OF WALLS) -Chronic sometimes has acute flare ups so that will present with sclerosis or thickening of walls AND a bubble
75
Acute sinusitis
76
Odontogenic sinusitis because the (blue) PA lesion draining into max sinus
77
Sinusitis
78
Sinusitis
79
Chronic sinusitis because look how thick the walls are
80
Chronic sinusitis on right because thick and sclerotic walls
81
Chronic sinusitis - thick and sclerotic walls
82
How to manage sinusitis?
Control infection, promote drainage, relieve pain
83
What is a mucocele?
Expanding, destructive lesion that results from blocked sinus astium - the increase in pressure within cavity results in thinning and displacement of sinus walls and soemtimes destruction
84
Mucocele
85
Mucocele - thinning of walls - inferior concavity being pushed superiorly
86
Mucocele - displacement and partial loss of posterolateral wall and inferior wall of max sinus
87
Mucocele - displacement and partial loss of posterolateral wall and inferior wall of max sinus
88
Mucocele - displacement and partial loss of posterolateral wall and inferior wall of max sinus
89
Mucocele
90
Where are 90% of mucoceles occur?
Ethmoid air cells and frontal sinuses
91
Tonsiliths bilaterally
