- Waves diffracting around Leslie’s Pier = prevented waves from depositing sediment in bay, disrupting natural LSD process

- Groynes built throughout 1900s - havent helped beach to recover
- Sand nourishment - hasn’t worked, beach continues to degrade

- Controverisal for owners of high-value properties at top of cliff, feel less protected - lack of trust, unstable government
