cum

A

The word cum has several, completely unrelated meanings.

  1. As a preposition, cum is translated as with or together. It is compounded with some pronouns, especially tecum, mecum, vobiscum, nobiscum, and quibuscum.
  2. As a conjunction, cum can introduce three distinct types of subordinate clauses:
    1. Temporal clauses: cum = when
    2. Causal clauses: cum = since, because
    3. Concessive clauses: cum = although
