elbow AP Flashcards

1
Q

What happens when humeral epicondyles aren’t parallel to the IR?

A

Elbow rotation. Epicondyles aren’t in profile and more or less than an 1/8th (0.6 cm) of the radial head superimposes the ulna. The radial tuberosity won’t be seen in profile medially and the raidus and ulna aren’t aligned in parallel while the wrist is in AP.

Q

How does a forearm get distorted and what other effects occur?

A

Elbow flexion, with forearm away from the IR. The radial head articular surface seen end on slightly projecting onto the joint. The forearm needs to be parallel with the IR to get the elbow joint open.
