Q

What is ground substance?

A

Its similar to the plasma of the blood. Viscus stuff that the fibers and cells float in.

Q

What are the functions of connective tissue?

A
  • Establishing a structural framework for the body.
  • Transporting fluids and dissolved materials.
  • Protecting delicate organs.
  • Supporting, surrounding, and interconnecting other types of tissue.
  • Storing energy, especially in the form of triglycerides.
  • Defending the body from invading microorganisms.

Q

Give and example of Dense Irregular tissue?

A

Skin - deep dermis

17
Q

Whats the name of a nucleus that’s off center?

A

Eccentric Nucleus

18
Q

Name the 3 types of fibers found in connective tissue?

A

Collagen Fibers Elastic Fibers Reticular Fibers

19
Q

What are the features of Collagen fibers and where are they found?

A

They are tough, yet flexible, rope like fibers. They DO NOT stretch. Tendons, Ligaments

20
Q

What are the features of Elastic Fibers?

A

They aren’t as thick as Collagen fibers but form a net/mesh of fibers. Found in skin to help it bounce back into shape. Is stretchy.

21
Q

What is the name of a large molecule found in the ground substance?

A

Glycosaminoglycans (GAG’s)

22
Q

From the embryo, where does connective tissue originate and what embryo cell?

A

Mesoderm layer but more specifically the mesenchymal cell

23
Q

What is the main cell in connective tissue?

A

Fibroblasts

24
Q

What are fibroblast responsible for making?

A

Collagen, Elastin, GAG’s and Proteoglycans
