- can throw a large ball to a partner and catch it

- can form letters, can copy letters, can write their own name
- can colour in pictures more accurately

- can count to 10 accurately
- can add two sets of objects together
- can match equal sets of things eg 2 cups containing 6 beads each
- understands the need for rules
- names times of the day eg bedtime

language and communication - at 5 years
A
- uses complex sentence such as ‘because’
- can talk about what has happened in the past and what may happen
- uses language to argue and answer back

emotional - at 5 years
A
- they can work out what others may be thinking (helps them negotiate)
- understand rules but may not always follow rules but behaviour is mostly cooperative

social - at 5 years
A
- close friendships develop and they are sad if their close friends are not there
- usually close friends are the same gender.
