“Age of Revolutions”. There was a parallel of literary and economic revolution.

The laws of free market developed by the economist and his work “The Wealth of Nations”, which dominated people’s lives.

Poverty and unemployment.
Why was William Godwin an important figure? What are his thoughts on poverty? Who did he influence?
He influenced Shelley and Wordsworth. He advocated to remove poverty and distribute all wealth.

Augustan/Classical. It’s focused on reason and order. Limits and controls emotions/imagination. It appeared at the time of rapid development of science, economics, engineering. It looks outward of society.
Romantic. It’s focused on feelings, imagination, intuition, heart. It looks inward of society.
How was a child viewed during Augustan/Classical and Romantic ages?
Augustan/Classical. They see a child developing into an adult.
Romantic. They see a child as someone pure, holy, close to God before getting corrupted in future.
What can you say about Byron?
He’s a romantic poet who was inspired by Augustan models.
How did Romanticism appear?
Small towns, villages started to disappear and we get a more mechanical society. Romantic poets tried to bring sensibility for the balance.
