Q

explain the process of phagocytosis. (5)

A

1- chemotaxis - chemicals released by pathogens attract the phagocyte & moves toward it along a concentration gradient
2- complementary receptors bind to surface of pathogen
3- cell surface membrane engulfs & traps pathogen (endocytosis) -> forms phagosome
4- lysosomes fuse with phagosome & releases lysozymes which hydrolyses & destroys bacterium
5- hydrolysis products are absorbed by phagocyte
