What is the normal mode?

When does it come on?

A

Whenever either one of the PTUs in the elevator fails. Dual engine failure or either hydraulic system fails.

It is normally in “Active Standby Mode”.

This means it will come on automatically when pressure is lost.

If green hash marks stay on after setting PTU switch to off in the air, what’s the problem?

A

The PTU is supplying pressure because either:

  • No2 sys lost pressure but still has fluid and No1 EDP is supplying at least 2400psi and.
  • Flaps are selected more than 0°. You most likely didn’t raise flaps completely. i.e flaps greater than 5 on takeoff and you raised them to 5 instead of 0.
  • No 2 engine oil pres is low.

A

DCMP operates intermittently and is controlled by two pressure switches. One switch signals the DCMP to operate at 2600 psi to pressurize the accumulator and the other pressure switch signals it to shut off when pressure reaches 3250 psi.
